Maybe a sheet of Perspex over the top, like wargamers use over paper "boards".I often use these to "sleeve" or protect game boards. Maybe it would keep things from moving and provide a flat surface.
You can buy Perspex sheets cut to various sizes on ebay.

Thread: Arkham Horror:: Strategy:: Mythos Card Stats for Movement and Type
by shawnhakl
I have seen several locations that have posted the % frequency that gates and clues will appear. Here are the summary stats for the other items on the card (assuming the original 67 Mythos Cards are used)Card Type (count / %total):
Headline (36 / 54%)
Environment (24 / 36%)
Rumor (6 / 9%)
Special (1 / 1%)
Movement Symbol (count / %total )
Moon (22 / 33%)
Square (23 / 34%)
Star (20 / 30%)
Diamond (23 / 34%)
Cross (22 / 33%)
Hexagon (22 / 33%)
Triangle (21 /31%)
Slash (22 / 33%)
Circle (22 / 33%)
Distribution is pretty evenly split for B/W so didnt bother to post.
Maybe not so useful for players but interesting for variant design. Also confirms that distribution of movement symbols is even.

This is interesting, because I've always assumed different symbols have different movement frequencies.Interesting to note that any given monster has about a 1/3 chance of moving each turn.
I thought I was just getting unlucky when my Cthonians seemed to move so often!

I really hope people are aware you have a backlog of 885 orders before you can actually send out the stuff they are going to order via the website.↧

This is not correct. I am packing Kickstarter orders myself and my web orders are handled by a third party.
Orders through the site are shipped within about a week.

Thread: Arkham Horror:: Rules:: Combat rules question
by RVS70
A few quick questions...My character has entered combat with a monster. My character's Fight is 1 and the monster's combat rating modifier is -3. Would my skill value be -2 or just zero? I would like to cast Wither which gives a +3 to combat checks but I don't know if I should apply this to -2 or zero.
Also, my character suffers enough damage to bring his stamina down to zero. So I move his pawn to St. Mary's Hospital, have him regain one stamina and then I'm supposed to get rid of half of his items. So what exactly is an item? Obviously "Common Items" and "Unique Items" qualify but what about things you can trade like money and spells?
Where the heck do you get retainers? Do you just start with them or can you find them somewhere?
During an encounter at The Unnamable, the location card said that "A monster and gate appear!" Does the character at that location first resolve the encounter (evade/combat) with the monster and then get sucked away into the gate, or do we ignore the monster and then proceed right to where the character enters the gate/outer world.
I imagine these questions have been asked before but please forgive. Even with the search feature, who has time to sift through 123 pages of rules questions and answers?

You continually add all modifiers so you would be adding the +3 to the -2. Once you are all done, if the number is then negative, it is set to zero. This matters because spending clue tokens always gets you the extra die no matter where your final number ended. And obviously you can't roll negative dice so even without clues, one all the math is done, you set it to zero.

This is spelled out in the FAQs if you want an exact answer. Common and Unique, like you stated. Also spells. Money is not an item. There are so many things added in the expansions, it is hard to do an exhaustive list from memory.

Retainers are the equivalent of a job. Maybe the newspaper would like to hire you for your strange experience....

The gate immediately draws you through so you don't deal with the monster at all at this time. The monster is a gift to your fellow investigators who stay behind.

Yes, they have. Searches work well. There is also an FAQ that has most of this but can be just as unwieldy as the forums. Most of us don't mind answering questions again. :)

Just to get clarification on the part I put in italics: After adding all modifiers, even if you end up in the negative (e.g. fight 2 + monster combat rating -3 = -1 in total), spending one clue token gives me a die to roll? In other words, I don't have to spend one clue token first to get to zero and a second token to get a die to roll?
Guess I played that wrong till now, then.

Yes, a clue token always gives you a die to roll, even if you end up in the negative after adding all modifiers, that's absolutely right! ;)↧

Technically, you add the extra dice for Clue tokens after rolling your initial "base" dice. And you can add them one at a time until you have enough successes. So, the flow would be like this:
1. Add all modifiers to you relevant Skill
2. If negative, reset to 0
3. Roll dice
4. Add extra dice by spending Clue tokens as desired/required
